#Breakthebias

In awareness of International Women’s Day, on the 8th March 2022 we are looking into ways we can #breakthebias in our workplaces.

“Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.

Celebrate women’s achievement. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality.” www.internationalwomensday.com

What can our organisations do, to help in this cause…..

An organisation that practises gender equality must treat men and women the same.

This includes:

  • Equal pay and benefits.
  • Equal consideration of needs.
  • Equal opportunities for progression and promotion.

To help foster gender equality, you could:

  • Give training to raise awareness.
  • Provide childcare facilities, family-friendly policies and childcare vouchers.
  • Shine a spotlight on successful employees in your company, both internally and through media channels.
  • Establish policies for fair pay and work/life balance.

The importance of gender equality in the workplace:

Ensuring that gender equality is taking place within your company will not only benefit the staff but also the organisation. Here are some benefits of gender equality and why they are important:

  • Increase the talent pool for leadership, promoting leadership diversity will boost company performance.
  • Create a safer and healthier work environment, organisations with gender equality in place will have more connected people.
  • Improve overall businesses. Companies that provide equal opportunities to their employees allow for more diverse insights and overall creativity.

How to ensure you are being fair in your recruitment process:

Focus on results, skill sets, not on the person!!

As a company, focus on the target achieved, not the identity of who achieves it. This does not mean neglect to credit whoever delivers the result. But what this means is to credit the achievers fairly regardless of their gender, as what matters, in the end, is that the delivered results benefit the whole organisation.

Build an enabling environment:

  • Promote equal opportunity for continuous learning. To move forward to a better future, everyone in the company must establish a growth mindset. Not only is this important for the company, but also the individual’s personal development.
  • Show your support and participation in the cause through webinars, conferences, events, etc.
  • Empower your people with the right tools and resources, so that they can perform at the best of their skills and capability.

TOGETHER WE CAN #BREAKTHEBIAS
