Refuse & Recycling Driver

The Job:
We are recruiting for a Refuse & Recycling Driver to join our client’s waste and recycling team on a temporary basis. This role involves driving and operating refuse and recycling vehicles while collecting domestic waste and recycling throughout the district, ensuring collections are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with agreed routes.

Key responsibilities:

• Drive and operate a refuse/recycling vehicle.
• Collect domestic refuse and recycling from residential properties on designated routes.
• Empty vehicle contents at the appropriate landfill or waste disposal site.
• Carry out weekly cleaning of the vehicle cab and body.
• Complete daily drivers’ hours records and submit them weekly.
• Report any vehicle or equipment defects that may affect safety or performance.
• Follow all Health & Safety procedures and Council working practices.
• Represent the Council professionally at all times.
• Support waste minimisation by ensuring organic waste is collected correctly.
• Educate members of the public on appropriate recycling and waste disposal methods.
• Use assigned fuel purchase cards in accordance with Council financial regulations.

About you:

• Hold a valid UK driving licence
• Hold a valid CPC qualification
• Hold a valid Digital Tachograph (Tacho) Card
• Previous experience driving refuse or HGV vehicles is desirable
• A reliable and safety-conscious approach to work
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Strong communication skills and the ability to provide excellent customer service when interacting with the public
