Quantity Surveyor

The Job:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to play a key role in the commercial success of projects across the Southwest. Working closely with project managers, operational teams, clients, subcontractors and suppliers, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial and contractual management of projects, protecting profit margins, maximising commercial opportunities and driving profitability.

Key responsibilities:
Contract & Commercial Management

• Review and interpret contracts, specifications, scopes of work and commercial terms
• Identify contractual risks, opportunities, exclusions and liabilities
• Manage variations, additional works and changes to project scope
• Ensure all contractual notices, submissions and deadlines are met
• Support the negotiation and agreement of final accounts

Valuations & Payment Applications

• Prepare, submit and manage interim valuations and applications for payment
• Assess completed works, ensuring all work undertaken is accurately and appropriately valued
• Negotiate valuations and variations with clients and their representatives
• Monitor payments, outstanding applications and cash flow
• Manage subcontractor applications and final accounts

Financial Management & Profitability

• Manage project budgets, forecasts, costs, profit and loss
• Monitor expenditure, committed costs and financial performance against tender allowances
• Identify cost overruns, commercial risks and opportunities to improve profit margins
• Prepare and provide regular commercial reports and financial forecasts to senior management

Procurement & Negotiation

• Manage procurement activities in line with project budgets
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
• Negotiate competitive rates, payment terms and contractual conditions
• Monitor purchase orders, subcontract costs and supplier expenditure
• Build and maintain strong commercial relationships while protecting the company’s financial interests

About you:
To be successful in this role, you will be commercially astute, analytical and detail-focused, with the ability to confidently manage the commercial aspects of multiple projects.

You will ideally have:

• Strong experience interpreting contracts and complex project documentation
• Experience managing valuations, payment applications, variations and final accounts
• A solid understanding of financial forecasting, cost control and profit and loss management
• Excellent negotiation, communication and relationship-building skills
• A proactive approach to identifying commercial risks and maximising opportunities
• Strong organisational skills, a practical mindset and the ability to manage competing priorities
• The confidence to work collaboratively with project managers, operational teams, clients, subcontractors and suppliers
