Christmas Homeless Project

This Christmas, we are thrilled to be working with a fantastic couple in the local area who have set-up a wonderful project involving the homeless community in Bath winning themselves a Heart of Bath Award this year.

Every Saturday since Christmas 2014, Laney and her husband Mark have driven into Bath from their home in Paulton and walked a three to four-mile route around the city distributing food packages, thermal socks, fingerless gloves, scarves, feminine hygiene products, wet wipes, packs of underwear, shower gels/shampoos (including 20p for the public shower and a small towel), dog food and other such items to all those they find living on the streets. They then go on to join the soup run, provided by the Genesis Trust and give out more socks, hats, gloves and cakes.

They receive help from other local people who donate food, bake cakes, or give money to help them source the items that they supply each week. They also organise a Christmas draw each year to help raise money to fund their activities. This year, the prizes are rolling in already with a holiday in Spain (flights not included), Afternoon Tea for 10 at Guildhall in Bath, Car Services, Spa Passes, a Luxury Hamper, Gift Vouchers, Meals for Two, Swimming Pases, Cash Prizes and much more!

In the weeks leading up to Christmas, Laney and Mark take Christmas Shoeboxes filled with gifts such as Christmas socks, soap, washcloths, hairbrushes, toothbrushes and toothpaste, deodorant, chewing gum, chocolate, Christmas crackers and a Christmas card with a hot food voucher inside. They also ensure that each dog gets a Christmas box of goodies too!

Last Christmas, the Simple team decided that rather than gift each of our clients as we usually would, we wanted to do something slightly different and distribute items such as hats, scarves, sleeping bags and food to the homeless community in Bath ourselves. However, this year, Jayla our Director here at Simple Recruitment is due to give birth mid-December and therefore distributing as we did before would prove rather difficult. It was by chance that we happened to come across a news article in a local newspaper recently about Laney & Mark and their incredible work and we knew right away that we wanted to get involved with their cause!

The difference that this couple makes to the lives of those living on the streets in Bath is incredible and we are so pleased to be offering our support by donating items such as socks, packs of underwear and hygiene products to go in their Christmas gift boxes.

Should anyone be interested in supporting the incredible work Laney & Mark carry out, please head over to their facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/groups/1621958294748908/
