A Day at My Desk
Mallory J – Recruitment Consultant – Perm Division
My day at Simple Recruitment tends to start much the same way each morning – opening my inbox and finding out what happened overnight. After that, I take it from there.
A lot of my work revolves around people. For candidates, I might be responding to enquiries, arranging interviews and presenting offers. For clients, I could be talking through new vacancies to really get to know a role, or building a relationship with a prospective client and getting to understand what they do, what they need, and how we can best work with them to support their recruitment process.
And to be honest, there’s a lot of overlap between what I do for clients and candidates. Especially at the moment, there are a lot of conversations about the economy, the job market, and navigating through it to the best effect. As well as this, recruitment is always a two-way process between client and candidate. It’s not just about whether a candidate goes forward and is successful at interview. Now more than ever, it’s also about whether the client makes that successful engagement with the candidate. Is this the right role for them? Will they be happy here? Is this somewhere they want to be every day? Is this somewhere they would stay year on year?
My role is to be a supporter and consultant for both parties. I’ve mentioned listening to and speaking with clients – how I can advise on strategy, find them the right candidates, promote what they offer, and add to their team. But it’s much the same with candidates. I listen to what they need and want, talk through options, and try and be a friendly, helpful and approachable voice as they make the next step in their career path.
In my own career, it’s the variety, consultancy and positivity that make recruitment so rewarding. I’m genuinely thrilled when I listen to a hiring manager’s eagerness to bring someone into their team. And I am honestly so happy to hear a candidate’s excitement when they’ve got a role they’re really invested in. As our focus at Simple is regional, I get to work on a variety of roles across a range of sectors. I’m lucky enough to speak with so many people (clients and candidates) doing so many different things, learn from them, and give them the best help and support I can.
More than that, recruitment is about always pushing yourself forward to learn more and do better. You can’t coast along or decide you’re now at your best. I think a lot of responsibility comes with recruitment. Clients trust you to work with them on decisions that will really influence their business. That candidates let them join you on their career journey is a privilege.
At Simple, we take what we do seriously – with enthusiasm and professionalism.
