Waste Management Loader

Our client based in Torridge are looking for a Waste Management Loader to join their team.

The purpose of this role will be:
*To load refuse or recycling responsibly and efficiently from the kerbside
*To promote recycling and waste minimalisation when dealing with members of the public
*To be responsible for driving of council owned vehicles when required

Main duties and responsibilities:
*The collection of household Waste or Recycling waste from individual properties throughout the Torridge area. Collections will be made via black bag, dustbin, wheeled bin or another receptacle.
*Provide cover for the cleansing or refuse contracts when required.
*To act in accordance with the Council work practices and to represent the Council in an appropriate manner at all times
*To follow Health & Safety work practices, as outlined in the Health & Safety manual
*To take responsibility for the vehicles and equipment issued when required, reporting any defects that may affect the vehicles roadworthiness, or the equipment’s effectiveness.
*To assist the driver of the Recycling / Refuse collection vehicle when reversing.
*To promote waste minimalisation by not disposing of domestic refuse when collecting organic waste.
*To visually check any organic bins for contamination when required to provide cover on the recycling contract
*To ensure spilt material is removed from the kerbside or property
*To ensure all receptacles are replaced correctly as not to cause any health and safety issues
*To ensure fuel purchase cards assigned to individual named drivers are used in Accordance with Council’s Financial Regulations

All employees need to have an awareness of risk management and be responsible for ensuring that they manage risk effectively in their job and report hazards and risks to their manager.

Personal requirements:
*Be able to work on own initiative
*Full UK driving licence
*An understanding of Health & Safety issues including Manual Handling
*Experience of dealing with customers or general public
*Experience of working in all weathers
*Previous waste collection experience desired but not required
